About The Author

Hugh Grinnell is a passionate historian and descendant of the legendary Grinnell family. Driven by a desire to preserve his family’s profound cultural legacy, Hugh spent years researching archival records and rare photographs.

Hugh discovered the archived exploration journals of a distant cousin who had stumbled upon a glacier in the northwestern Rockies of Montana in 1885. This discovery changed his life. From 1885 to 1910, his cousin, George Bird Grinnell, explored, discovered, named geological features and mapped the area which, due to his leadership, created the 8th national park in the United States. Hugh compiled Bird’s daily journal entries from 1885 – 1927 to create this adventure story.

In his recent book, Grinnell Brothers Music House, Hugh’s work bridges the gap between Detroit’s industrial rise and its iconic musical soundscape, bringing to life an unforgettable story of American ambition, resilience, and craftsmanship.
